shotgun in the attic

Recommended Posts

One of the farms that I have permission on has found a gun in the attic and wanted me to find out about it. First of all does in need to be registered by the police or something? Its heavly pitted. Will it need testing? Is it a shotgun or rifle. The markings on it are "cal 9mm glatt" "victor" "no 3 shot 1-75" nitro proof 3/15" "victor mod 1/4" any help would be great

If they have honestly just found it in the attic, then tell them to declare it straight away. I.e if it was a previous owners, or deceased relative etc.

There is no problem then with it being registered and kept by a sec 2 cert holder.

Get it done though!

Thanks Paul that looks to be the gun. So if I was to take possession of it it would still be a problem with the police even as I have a licence?

yes mate as it will be unregisterd and no one can complete table 2 of your certificate. and take the advice above but make sure they say they have just found it and called straight away

OK thanks I will contact the FAO tomorrow then. Will I need to get it tested because of the rust and pitting?

if its in that condition i would let them destroy it unless it has sentimental value in which case i would have it deactivated

It only needs proof testing if you intend to sell it. I don't believe you need it to be "in proof" to sell it privately but an RFD would commit an offence if he sold you an out of proof gun.

For piece of mind, if it is that badly pitted and you wanted to fire it, I would have a competent gunsmith assess it, if needs be work on it, then submit it to the proof house for piece of mind

A 9mm is relatively slow and low pressured so the tolerances wouldn't be as tight as say a .410

A license holder should be able to register it.

the problem there is whoever gives it to you unregistered is comitting an offence and as they carnt complete table 2 of your certificate your comitting an offence aswell, the only way it can get registered is via the police or an rfd

you can contact your local firearms dept and tell them about the gun you will need a letter from the house owner with their full details saying they found it in the loft and gave it too you as they dont have a certificate the police would rather you have it than a non certificate holder

Its amazing how much shit is talked about unregistered guns!!!

Its a simple process. take it to rfd, he will run serial number with police, it comes back "clean" and is transfered from rfd books to your ticket. job done.

If it comes back as being stolen or in relation to a crime then the excrement hits the air circulating device.

Edd

by the way, this is not hearsay or opinion..i am an rfd
